In Case You Missed It—February 6, 2007

After a heavier article last week, today I want to review an artist and a movie that are both just pure, unabashed fun.

Ricki-Oh: The Story of Ricki (1992)

Ricki-Oh is one of those rare spectacular failures that should have known it would be impossible to take itself seriously, a movie in which someone's face is cut off with a wood plane in the opening scene. The story centers around Ricki, a young kung fu master, who is put in prison and proceeds to punch, kick, and mutilate his way through the prison's evil masters. These include, but are not limited to, a man who uses knitting needles for weapons, a man who can morph into a mix between the Hulk, Confucius, and Steve Buscemi, and a “man" so effeminate that I didn't realize he was male until I researched the movie afterward.

Duffy Keeps Promise, Travels in Wheelchair

(Rochester, N.Y.) -- People often complain about having to walk through the snow but what if you can't walk? Wednesday, Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy and his commissioner of environmental services maneuvered the tricky winter conditions from the perspective of people in wheelchairs. Duffy only made it about a block before he was tired and this was after thinking the sidewalks were reasonably clear. He admitted the snow, ice and bumps made navigation difficult, and said that with effort, the community could do a better job of clearing them. The mayor was fulfilling a campaign promise made to the Center for Disability Rights. They say people in wheelchairs are often stuck at home in winter weather. .

Judge tells both sides in dispute to settle it

A federal judge on Monday suggested that Boca Raton and a so-called sober house operator take another 10 days to try to resolve a dispute over a city zoning ordinance that prevents the recovery program from operating in a residential area.

U.S. District Judge Donald Middlebrooks' recommendation came after he heard closing arguments in the discrimination case, which began last week. Earlier mediation in the case failed.

SpiceJet Launches Web Check-in

Commented Siddhanta Sharma, CEO, SpiceJet Ltd., "SpiceJet's unique Web Check-in service provides seamless and hassle-free air travel experience. The new facility thereby also helps in making check-in counters at airports less crowded. It saves lots of time of passengers."

This service not only allows passengers to select their preferred seat but also facilitates the printing of the boarding passes for the same day's return flight. The Web Check-in service, however, does not entertain cancellations or modification requests once the passenger uses this facility. This facility is not available for passengers traveling with infant(s), passengers using wheelchairs and unaccompanied minor(s).

To avail the facility, the passenger needs to have a valid photo identity like passport or driving licence issued by a Government authority.
